8-Month Old

Dylan is 8-months old now. It is February, and we took these pictures today near our apartment. We spent the last two days driving around Tempe trying to find a park with green grass. All the parks have brown grass right now. Finally we decided to use this small plot of land about 50 feet from our apartment door. Only to find out that Dylan, who is not afraid of dogs, cats, people, babies, giraffes, airplanes, or cacti, is afraid of grass. She cried every time we put her feet near it, and eventually was afraid to even sit on the blanket on the grass.

However, now at 8-months, she is crawling around backwards like a champ. Still hasn't figured out how to get out of reverse though. She can pull herself up, and in fact will do so even in precarious situations. She and Super are good friends now. He lets her pull on his hair and put her weight on him, as long as she stays away from his tail. Dylan is making all sorts of sounds, lots of mama, papa, dada, baba, although they don't seem to be referencing anything specific yet.

Nicole is getting ready for her LivingSocial photo shoots. She advertised and sold 59 shoots which she will try to complete in the next few months before we plan on heading back east.

I am busy with school, and not having much luck breaking into any Phoenix music scene. I am planning a few projects - a 20's style band, a Gershwin solo show, some other solo piano things, and writing a bunch of pieces, including a wind ensemble piece, a viola-piano-clarinet trio, some Oscar Wilde songs, and orchestrating The Butcher of Plainfield for a possible run this summer in New York. I also had the idea recently to orchestrate the first movement of Keith Jarrett's The Köln Concert. We'll see. On top of that, I am teaching, still playing with Mystery Mansion, and working on a paper for my Bibliography class on improvisation. And of course hanging out with Dylan. Busy busy.

Not much else to say, except that coming back to Arizona after the holidays has been more of a challenge than we expected. With Dylan now moving around more it definitely give us both less time to do our own stuff. I'm not complaining, but it has been a huge adjustment. That combined with the lack of work out here created a lot of stress for me in January. I finally realized that I don't need to worry so much about making money right now, I just need to focus on my school work and make sure that I am setting myself up for the best possible opportunities after graduation. We are both working hard, and that is what counts. Good things will happen. And Dylan sure makes me smile more than I ever thought I could!
